This Japanese Gyokucho replacement bladeis an excellent all-purpose woodworking saw blade. It is good for general lumber, hard & softwoods, for plywood, & for laminate board. The saw blade will even work for semi-fine to fine projects too. The blade has a special rounded nose which allows the ability to start in the middle of a panel. AboutJapanese Pull Saws
Japanese saws cut on the pull stroke. Their teeth are very precise & are angled towards the handle; this allows you to cut with great efficiency & control, resulting in precise straight cuts.Another benefit with cutting on the pull-stroke is that you are able to follow your cutting line, givingyou accurate & smoother cuts. The blades on Japanese saws are generally constructedof a thinner steelwhich produces a finerkerf (space left by the blade). Another major benefit bycutting on the pull-stroke is that less force & effort is required when sawing, leaving you not as fatigued when working. Western saws (push saws) on the other hand, typically have teeth that cut on the push stroke. By cutting on a push stroke, the woodwill splinter & chip away from you (which is desired in certain circumstances). Western sawstypically have thicker blades to keep from bending out when pushing through the cut; they also generally create a larger kerf than Japanese saws.
