The bevelled tip on these Vix-Bits align in the countersunk hole of the hardware & provide an accurate & precise center-drilled hole for the corresponding screws. The drill depth is also adjustable to a specific depth, due to the set-screw on the side of the Vix-Bit. The drill bits will work in a number of materials including wood, metal, & plastics. These self-centering bits are a most handy tool especially when working with hardware!

    From the Manufacturer:

Sam Vick, a carpenter & building contractor, was looking for an easier way to install hinges, window latches & hardware using screws. He invented a self-centering drill bit that ensured a perfectly centered hole every time. The Vix-Bit became so popular with fellow carpenters that he formed S.E. Vick Tool Company in 1958.
